Background

The Prince Philip Scholarship was founded to enable talented Hong Kong students to pursue an undergraduate degree at the University of Cambridge. With the support of many generous donors, the Friends of Cambridge University in Hong Kong has funded and managed the Prince Philip Scholarship Scheme since 1981. The Friends aim to ensure that talented Hong Kong students receive full financial support to complete their undergraduate studies at the University of Cambridge.

What is included?

  • Non means-tested part:
    • £4,500 per annum
    • 1 Hong Kong to London economy class return air ticket / year
  • Means-tested part - Up to (depending on the results of the means test):
    • ​Full tuition fee
    • College fee
    • Basic living expenses

​The scholarship is reviewed annually in light of academic progress and the student's financial needs, and is normally tenable for the duration of the undergraduate course of 3 years.

Eligibility

Applicants must:
  • Have ordinarily resided in Hong Kong for a continuous period of not less than 7 years
  • Hold a valid Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card
  • Applicants with UK Home Fee status will not be considered
  • Not already registered as a student in another tertiary education institute, whether in Hong Kong or overseas
  • Scholarship awards will not be confirmed by the Scholarship committee until the candidate has been accepted by one of the preferred Colleges.
